Correction of the pedigree sequence
for Shagya-Arabians and OX.Arabians: crossbreeding with outside bloodlines.

Haflinger-Pentagon Sàrl-GmbH
as the umbrella organisation for the breeding of the Haflinger breed
⇒ Haflinger ⇐

⇒ Supports the specification of the breeding lines present within the breed.

⇒ The individual listing of the grouping required of a member of a breed division or section as a breeding method requires the relevant approval of its validity from the Federal Office for Agriculture (BLW) – Department of Animal Products and Animal Breeding. This applies equally to cross-breeding in OX, the percentage of Arabian and Thoroughbred blood, and the Shagya-Arabian XX lineage and confirmation of affiliation.

⇒ The Breeding Association of Stud Farms, the AAG-Txx divisions and sections, AAP-Tha – as a pure-bred, pure-line herd book group – adopts the principles and breeding programme of the Haflinger Horse Breeding Association of Tyrol (HPT), the recognised breed organisation maintaining the original stud book for the Haflinger breed. - Shagya-Arabian XX gene pool.

⇒ ALL breeding establishments certified as stud farms must be reported annually for verification to the umbrella organisation, the Haflinger-Pentagon, Sàrl-GmbH, together with the
⇒ Certificate of Origin ⇐ and the required life number (UHLN) in accordance with the UELN system.

⇒ Haflinger horse breeding is generally divided into two sectors

⇒ The stud breeding association, in which the breeding stallions are owned by the stud, and private stallion keeping, where stallion licensing is replaced by the assessment of offspring.

⇒ Stud breeding is modelled on the breed breeding authority responsible for the original stud book, the Haflinger Horse Breeding Association Tyrol (HPT) Fohlenhof-Ebbs, A6341 Ebbs (Austria).

⇒ Membership of the Stud Breeding Department Section Txx-Tha is subject to the Detailed Consent Agreement, which is renewed annually.

⇒ The pedigree requirements for stud breeding horses are set out in the breeding programme, Article 1.2: ‘The breeding objective is achieved exclusively through pure breeding and selection.’ The Shagya-Arabian XX pedigree is decisive as the foundation of the breed.

⇒ In Article 1.3, ‘Foreign Breeds and Foreign Genetic Components’, the requirements of the A.N.A.C.R.Ha.I. stud book, as stipulated in South Tyrol and the Italian stud book of origin, are decisive.
The inclusion of OX and Arabian Thoroughbred bloodlines as
⇒ a historically recognised component of the origin and development of the breed ⇒ Haflinger ⇐ must be permitted, rather than merely tolerated.

⇒ In accordance with this requirement, a strict and precise interpretation is essential.

⇒ The interpretation, explanation or clarification that knowingly and deliberately asserts the incompatibility of cross-breeding with OX (Arabian thoroughbred) blood, in accordance with Italian state interventionism, whilst being fully aware that the attempts at improvement using OX, Arabian thoroughbreds were discontinued in 1960. Too sensitive for use as a pack animal across the Alpine passes and on mountain farms; the temperament of the OX-Arabian thoroughbred crossbreed is too unruly and must therefore be deemed unsuitable!

⇒ Nevertheless, and precisely for this reason, the wishes of the experimental breeders must be accommodated.

⇒ The imposition of a controversial cross-breeding programme for the purpose of improvement, which is being tolerated against our will, should not be prevented.

⇒ At the same time, the improvement of breeding objectives without the introduction of new blood must not be made impossible for the purebred horse breeder; this is a task for the HPT (Haflinger Horse Breeding Association of Tyrol), the breed organisation responsible for maintaining the original stud book. Supervision of the purebred, homozygous Haflinger breed can also be ensured by Haflinger-Pentagon Sàrl-GmbH.

⇒ A new cross-border association for the preservation and safeguarding of the division comprising pure-bred, pure-line representatives of the breed, named
⇒ Vollblut Haflinger pur-sang ⇐, could become a reality in 2040. This is to be achieved in the meantime.

⇒ The new association, named ⇒ Vollblut Haflinger, pur-sang ⇐, is to be established across national borders as ⇒ Welt Haflinger Vollblut Zucht ⇐.

⇒ The association: World Haflinger Thoroughbred Breeding (WHVZ) – with a ‘Certificate of Origin’ and a Common Universal Haflinger Life Number (UELN) system for the divisions and sections: AAG-Txx and the AAP-Tha-Tyrolean Purebred Haflinger – is documented by the horse’s origin and affiliation with the breed organisation maintaining the original stud book.

⇒ The breed organisations maintaining the original stud books – HPT-A.N.A.C.R.Ha.I-FN are breed representatives who, within divisions and sections, claim the horse’s origin and affiliation via the ‘Certificate of Origin’ and the UHLN, which confirms breed affiliation or the visual characteristics inherited from the breed. The alphanumeric Universal Haflinger Life Number (UELN) system is the globally recognised identification number, providing information on the origin and affiliation of the division or section to the breed.

⇒ Haflinger ⇐ The same is not necessarily the same.

⇒ The division/section is identified by the ⇒ Certificate of Origin ⇐, whilst the UHLN and UELN numbers indicate affiliation within the divisions and sections.
Identification key:

the ⇒ ISO 3166-1 A3 country code, 3 characters ⇒ nations – worldwide.

the ⇒ breed affiliation code, 3 digits ⇒ Haflinger 016.

the = department/section code, 3 letters ⇒ Txx-Tha/BCP/CXP/CXE/CXR.

der = number of registered foals, 4 digits ⇒ sequential per nation.

and dem = year of the horse’s birth, 2 digits ⇒ 25 = 2025

⇒ The division into divisions and sections distinguishes the origin and gene pool affiliation of the lineage of 249 Folie, born in 1874, of the breed: Shagya-Arabians and the foreign-blood crossbreeding sections that favour OX and Arabian Thoroughbreds. For Haflingers carrying foreign blood in their pedigree, crossbreeding with foreign blood is possible at levels ranging from 0.0% to 12.5%; a figure of 0.00% after 9 generations is a fraud! OX and Arabian Thoroughbreds are foreign bloodlines in the ⇒ Haflinger ⇐ breed’s pedigree!

And this is referred to by Haflinger-Pentagon Sàrl-GmbH for correction, and labelled as unacceptable.

⇒ The endeavour to promote the ⇒ Haflinger ⇐ horse breed as a harmonised whole – as a single breed in which all Haflingers are considered equal, without divisions or sections based on origin or affiliation – does not correspond to reality.

⇒ Diversity and national sovereignty, as well as independent national sovereignty, must be guaranteed. For example, in the case of Switzerland, the selection of characteristics – scoring – required by the Federal Council is not sufficient to implement this. The assessment of temperament is the characteristic to be used for selection.

⇒ The method of assessment and selection should also be determined by the national association and implemented accordingly.
